KKR – 25/2, 3.4 overs ( Xavier Bartlett 9/2) – Match called off due to rain
The match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) was washed off due to heavy rain in Kolkata. KKR were looking for their first win in this IPL season and they were left waiting yet again. KKR won the toss and their captain Ajinkya Rahane elected to bat first on what they perceived to be a dry pitch. It was a curious decision since both their lead spinners Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy were not playing due to ill health and injury respectively. It would have been interesting to watch how their spinners would have performed bowling second on this pitch. However, the pitch certainly helped the Punjab Kings pace bowlers early on as both Arshdeep Singh and Xavier Barlett managed to swing the ball prodigiously. KKR were rocked by two early wickets by pacer Xavier Barlett, who bowled an excellent over to get rid of Finn Allen and Cameron Green, both caught behind by the wicketkeeper. KKR were placed at 25/2 in 3.4 overs when rain came and stopped the match.
